Functional Description
Adjusting snow-blowing angle
The snow discharge can be directed straight ahead, 30° to the left, or 30° to the right. Pull and hold up the louver adjustment lever, turn it to the direction you want to throw the snow, then release the lever to lock the position.
Operation
Never use the snow blower attachment on a rooftop, ice,ce or other unstable surface may result in serious injury. Never point the snow blower attachment at yourself, bystanders, or animals. Discharged snow or other objects can cause injury. Be aware of the direction of the wind. Adjust the snow-throwing angle with the wind direction to prevent snow from being thrown into your face. Clear away stones, wires, rubble, crud, weeds,, any other obstacles in the working area before snow season begins.
Applications
The snow blower attachment is designed for clearing snow from narrow paths, sidewalks, steps, decks, and aller driveways when snow depth is under 300 mm. Clearing depth varies depending on snow conditions. Applications under typical snow conditions.
| Application | Fig. | Snow type | Snow condition | Snow density (g/L) |
| Practical | 1 | Freshly fallen snow | Powder snow that falls through dry air and cold temperatures. Soft, loose, falls easily through the fingers. | 50 – 150 |
| Practical | 2 | Settled snow | Snow crystals grow and bond together. Cohesive, porous structure similar to a sponge made of ice. | 150 – 300 |
| Impractical | 3 | Hardpacked snow | Compressed snow that has undergone a cycle of melting and refreezing, resulting in a hard and icy crust on top of the snowpack. | 300 or heavier |
| Impractical | 4 | Corn snow | Relatively moist snow that is thawed on the surface and is wet and heavy. | 300 or heavier |
Snow Blowing Operation
Carry the snow blower with both hands by holding the front handle and the rear grip of the power unit. Open your stance so that the body weight is evenly distributed over both feet. Always use the shoulder harness, and keep the snowblower on your right side firmly.
Place the scraper (under cover at the bottom of the snow blower attachment) flat on the ground. Turn the snow intake hood around towards the way you want to remove the snow. Switch the snow blower on. Push the snow blower forward so it rides on the scraper. Carefully control the steering angle and forward speed according to snow depth and weight.

Adjust the snow blowing angle with the wind direction, or against the wall and any obstruction in your way.
Intended Use
This attachment is designed only for the purpose of blowing snow in conjunction with an approved power nit. Never use the attachment for other purposes. Abusing the attachment may cause serious injury.

- Never direct the discharge toward populated areas where property damage can occur.
- Do not overload the machine capacity by attempting to clear snow at too fast a rate.
- Never operate the machine at high transport speeds on slippery surfaces.
- Disengage the power to the impeller when the machine is transported or not in use.
- Use only attachments and accessories approved by the manufacturer of the machine.
- Always be sure of your footing, and keep a firm hold on the handles. Walk; never run.

- Do not use the snow blower attachment on frozen lakes, rivers, or similar surfaces.
- Broken ice may pose a risk of falling through the ice, resulting in death or serious injury.
- Do not operate the machine in falling snow, rain, or wet conditions.
Maintenance and Storage
- Check bolts at frequent intervals for proper tightness to be sure the equipment is in a safe working condition.
- Always refer to the instruction manual for important details if the snow blower is to be stored for an extended period.
- Maintain or replace safety labels, as necessary.
- Run the machine a few minutes after blowing snow to prevent freeze-up of the impeller.
- Remove the battery from the machine to prevent someone from accidentally starting the motor.
- Remove any wrench before turning the machine on. A wrench left attached to the machine may result in personal injury.

Seasonal Maintenance
Salt and dirt left on your snow blower attachment during the off-season can cause corrosion to the body and metal components. Wipe or wash away salt and dirt. Then thoroughly wipe the attachment dry afterwards to prevent rust and freezing.
Overall Inspection
- Tighten loose bolts, nuts, and screws.
- Look for any damaged or worn parts that need repairing. Ask our authorized service center to replace them if necessary.
Replacing Scraper
The scraper (under cover at the bottom of the snow blower attachmenneedsres to be replaced when the scraper ribs are worn out due to friction. A surface layer of the short rib can be used as an indicator of wear. Ask for a replacement if you cite its surface roughness. ► Fig.20: 1. Scraper 2. Short rib 3. Scraper rib
Lubricating Moving Parts
Drive axle

FAQs
Q: Which Makita models is the SN400MP compatible with?
The Makita Multi-Tool Power Heads (Multi-Tool System) are compatible with the SN400MP snow blower attachment. Prior to installation, make sure your particular power head model is compatible.
Q: How do I attach the SN400MP to my Makita power head?
Make sure the power head is off and unplugged. Make sure the drive shaft and the snow blower attachment line up. Slide the attachment onto the shaft until it clicks or locks into place.
Q: What type of snow conditions can the SN400MP handle?
Snowfall is light to moderate (up to 20 cm/8 inches). Wet or heavy snow may hinder performance; dry, powdery snow is best. Steer clear of debris or chunks of ice to avoid damage.
Q: Can I use aftermarket or non-Makita attachments with the SN400MP?
No, using non-Makita attachments could jeopardise safety and void the warranty. Use only the attachments made especially for your power head system.
Q: Is the SN400MP suitable for commercial or heavy-duty snow removal?
The SN400MP is intended for light-duty and residential applications. Consider a specialised snow blower with a larger capacity for areas that receive a lot of snowfall.
Q: How do I prevent snow from sticking inside the chute?
Before using, lightly mist the chute with non-stick cooking spray or silicone lubricant. Steer clear of oils that can freeze at low temperatures. During operation, gently tap or brush the chute to prevent ice buildup.
Q: Can I attach the SN400MP to a battery-powered Makita unit?
Consider additional battery packs for longer use, as heavy snow may cause the battery to drain more quickly.
