    • Check the button connection
    • Try a spare pair of wires through the traveling cable
    • Check if the wire is running through the hoistway by itself
    • Check if there is loud background noise in the cab
    • Check the location of the microphone
    • Check the mounting of the unit
    • Hold the unit in hand and test
    • Try adjusting the speaker and microphone volumes
    • Check if other devices are on the line
    • Check the voltage on the phone line
    • Check polarity on the phone line

    FAQs

Q: What does “line-powered” mean for the G3 telephone?

“Line-powered” refers to the G3’s ability to operate without the need for an external DC adapter by drawing its power straight from the analogue telephone line (loop-start, voice-grade). The documentation states that it runs on common analogue telephone line voltages.

Q: Can I install the G3 telephone on a digital or VoIP line?

No, the G3 is designed for analogue station ports of a PBX/key system or analogue loop-start voice-grade telephone lines.

Q: What kind of wiring should I use for the line, and why?

For the incoming telephone line in lift or moving cable systems, the handbook suggests 20–22 AWG shielded twisted pair cable.

Q: What are the main differences between the G3 and MG3 models?

Since the G3 is line-powered, it doesn’t require any external power and runs straight from the phone line voltage. For detailed installation and programming of the MG3 model, refer to the JANUS ADA Telephone MG3 Powered Phone Instruction Manual.

Q: Can I program the G3 without connecting it to a phone line?

Yes, you can use a temporary DC source or a 9 V battery attached to the power terminals to locally program the device.

Q: What happens if the called number doesn’t answer?

The G3 may save up to four numbers, and it will automatically dial the next programmed number if the first one fails (busy, no answer, or line problem).
