Rice
This is an important tool in using your rice cooker successfully, and its size is standard in the rice industry. One rice measuring cup equals 6 oz. (177 ml) or approximately 3/4 cup U.S. standard measuring cup.
Measure rice with a rice measuring cup. Add the desired amount of measured uncooked rice to the steaming basket. Do not fill the above side vents to prevent rice from falling through while rinsing. Place the basket under a slow-flowing faucet and rinse. Add drained rice to the cooking pot. Repeat rinsing with any remaining rice.
Fill with water to the corresponding water line. Example: If you add 3 level rice cups of rice to the cooking pot, add water to the “3” line of the cooking pot. DO NOT exceed 7-cup MAX fill line.
Place the cooking pot securely into the base.
Close lid.
Plug into the wall outlet; all lights will flash on the control panel.
Press SELECT MODE until WHITE RICE, QUICK RICE, or WHOLE GRAIN is illuminated. Light will glow for the mode selected. For packaged rice mixes. Press START/WARM to start cooking, OR the unit will start automatically in 5 seconds.
Once a mode is selected, the default time for that mode is displayed. The digital rice cooker will adjust the cooking time throughout the cooking cycle based on the amount of rice and moisture in the cooker.
When finished cooking, the cooker will switch to WARM, and the light will glow. The display will count up the WARM time for up to 12 hours. After 12 hours, the rice cooker will turn off. OR, press CANCEL ( ) to turn off.
TIP: If you prefer a softer rice, let cooked rice rest on WARM at least 10 to 15 minutes.

FAQs
Q: What can I cook in my Hamilton Beach Rice Cooker & Food Steamer?
Additionally, a lot of models enable simultaneous steaming and boiling of rice.
Q: Can I open the lid while the rice is cooking?
It’s best not to open the lid. Steam is released, which may have an impact on cooking consistency and time. Hold off until the device changes to “Warm.”
Q: How do I use the steaming basket?
After filling the main pot with water or boiling rice, place the steaming tray inside, add your vegetables or protein, shut the lid, and begin the cycle. The thickness of the food affects the steaming time.
Q: Can I cook rice and steam vegetables at the same time?
Yes. Start the rice and place the vegetables in the steaming tray above. Choose vegetables that cook within the rice’s cooking time (e.g., broccoli, carrots, peas).
Q: Is it safe to cook oil-heavy or fried foods in the cooker?
No, rice cookers are made for cooking with water. Steer clear of sautéing, deep-frying, and cooking with little liquid.
Q: How do I clean the inner pot and steaming basket?
Let cool, then use a gentle sponge, warm water, and light soap to wash. Steer clear of abrasive pads and metal utensils to preserve the non-stick coating.
Q: Can I use the rice cooker to reheat leftovers?
Yes—use the Cook cycle until the device changes to Warm, add a tiny splash of water, and break up the rice. For even heating, stir halfway through.
