    FAQs

Q: How does the Varia radar work?

A compatible head unit, smartphone, or Garmin wearable receives notifications from the radar when it detects vehicles approaching from behind up to several hundred feet or meters distant.

Q: Which devices are compatible with the RTL515/RTL516?

They are compatible with numerous Garmin watches, the Varia app on iOS and Android, and the majority of Garmin Edge riding computers. Varia radar may also be supported by some third-party bike computers.

Q: How do I mount the radar on my bike?

Use the rubber adapters and seatpost mount that are included. Choose the insert that best fits the shape of your seatpost (round, aero, or D-shaped), then fasten it with the included bands or straps.

Q: Can I use the radar without the taillight?

If you would rather utilise a different back light or save battery life, the RTL515 has a “radar-only” option.

Q: How do I pair the radar with my Garmin device?

On your Edge or Garmin wearable, select Sensors > Add Sensor > Radar. On smartphones, use the Varia app and use Bluetooth to follow the on-screen pairing instructions.

Q: Why won’t my radar connect to my device?

Verify that the radar is turned on, that Bluetooth/ANT+ is turned on, and that it isn’t already linked to anything. The problem is usually fixed by restarting both your bike computer and the radar.

Q: What do the light modes on the RTL515 mean?

Typically, the RTL515 has several modes, including peloton mode (reduced brightness for group riders), solid, day flash, and night flash. Model and region-specific variations exist in light behaviour.
