    Safety instructions

    When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

    3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
    4. ALWAYS place the appliance on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
    5. DO NOT place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
    6. DO NOT operate the appliance in an enclosed space or under hanging cabinets.
    7. DO NOT let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
    8. DO NOT use this appliance for anything other than its intended use.
    9. NEVER use an outlet below the counter. DO NOT use the appliance outdoors.
    10. UNPLUG the appliance from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning.
    11. Allow the appliance to cool before attaching or removing parts.
    12. Do not reach into the liquid if the appliance is plugged in and immersed.
    13. Do not immerse or rinse cords or plugs in water or other liquids.
    14. The appliance’s outer surfaces may become hot during use.
    15. Wear oven mitts when handling hot surfaces and components.
    16. When cooking, DO NOT place the appliance against a wall or other appliances.
    17. Leave at least 5 inches of free space on the top, back, and sides, and above the appliance.
    18. If you are unsure, place a trivet or hot pad under the appliance before using it.
    19. This appliance is intended for normal household use only.
    20. It is NOT INTENDED for use in commercial or retail environments.

    How to Use

    This appliance is for household use only.

    • Remove all packing material and stickers from the product. Remove and save literature.
    • Wash and dry all removable parts as instructed in the CARE AND CLEANING section of this manual.
    • Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface.
    Getting Started
    1. Using the water level markings on the inside of the cooking bowl as a guide, add the amount of water that matches the amount of rice to be cooked.
    2. For example, if preparing 1 measure of rice, add water to the 1-cup water level mark.
    3. Adding too much water may cause the appliance to boil over.
    4. Avoid having rice kernels or other ingredients fall into the rice cooker.
    5. Insert the cooking bowl into the rice cooker.
    6. Place a glass lid on the cooking bowl. For best results, always keep the glass lid on while cooking.
    7. Uncoil the cord and plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The KEEP WARM indicator light comes on.
    8. Press down the ON switch. The COOK indicator light comes on, and cooking begins.
    9. The KEEP WARM indicator light will stay on until the appliance is unplugged.
    10. For best results, let the cooked rice rest for 15 minutes, covered, to further steam the rice.
    11. Just before serving, remove Black And Decker RC3303 3-Cup Rice Cooker the lid and fluff the rice.
    12. Use a serving scoop provided with the appliance to prevent damage to the nonstick surface of the cooking bowl.
    Heating Packed Food
    1. Avoid having any food fall into the rice cooker.
    2. Insert the cooking bowl into the rice cooker.
    3. Place a glass lid on the cooking bowl.
    4. Uncoil the cord and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.
    5. The KEEP WARM indicator light comes on.
    6. Press down the ON switch. The COOK indicator light comes on, and cooking begins.
    7. As the soup or stew heats, steam may come out through the vent on the glass lid.
    8. For even heating, stir the mixture occasionally during cooking.
    9. Replace the lid when stirring is completed.
    10. Always use a kitchen timer and do not leave these foods unattended.
    11. When cooking is completed, unplug the unit.
    12. Do not keep cooked soups and stews in the KEEP WARM cycle.

    Care and Cleaning

    This product contains non-user-serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.

    • Unplug the unit before cleaning and let it cool completely. Never immerse the unit in water or other liquid.
    • Wash the cooking bowl, Black And Decker RC3303 3-Cup Rice Cooker lid, serving scoop, and rice measure in warm, soapy water or the dishwasher.
    • Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads – they may scratch the nonstick surface or could result in poor contact with the heating plate.
    • Wipe the interior of the unit with a dry cloth. Clean the outside surface with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
    • If water accidentally gets into the switch area or onto the heating plate, allow it to dry thoroughly before using the rice cooker.

    Q: What types of food can I cook with the HS1150?

    Rice, steamed vegetables, fish, poultry, eggs, and even dumplings can all be prepared with the HS1150. It’s perfect for nutritious dishes that don’t include extra oil.

    Q: Can I cook multiple foods at once?

    Indeed. With the steamer’s stackable baskets, you can cook rice, veggies, and protein all at once without letting their flavours blend.

    Q: Is it safe to leave the HS1150 unattended?

    Indeed. When cooking is finished, the cooker automatically turns off and switches to a warm setting. Before cooking, always make sure the reservoir has adequate water.

    Q: Can I use the steamer to cook frozen food?

    Indeed. Fish, poultry, and frozen veggies can all be cooked in the steamer. Depending on thickness, cooking time may rise by 5 to 10 minutes.

    Q: Does the cooker have a timer or automatic shut-off?

    Indeed. In addition to a keep-warm mode that keeps the rice at the proper temperature until you’re ready to serve, it has an automatic shut-off for both steaming and rice cooking.
