EASTWOOD QST 30 60 Automatic Moisture Drain Kit
Safety Instructions
- Before performing any service, turn the Power Switch to the “OFF” position, disconnect from the power supply, and release pressure from the Tank until the Gauge indicates 0 PSI.
- The Oil Tank may be under pressure. Opening the Drain Valve or removing the Fill Plug under pressure can cause oil to be blown out at high velocity. Move the Power Switch to the “OFF” position. Release pressure from the Tank until the Tank Pressure Gauge indicates 0 PSI. Disconnect the Compressor from the power supply. Always wear appropriate eye protection.
BURN HAZARD!
- COMPONENTS AND OIL ARE HOT! Significant heat is generated during operation. Allow to cool for a minimum of 1 hour after last use before servicing to avoid burns.
EYE INJURY HAZARD!
- Air, moisture, and debris can be ejected at high velocity while using this equipment. Always wear ANSI Z87-approved eye protection when servicing or operating this compressor and associated equipment.
- Fluids drained from the Moisture Drain Kit Bottle contain hazardous materials and should be disposed of in compliance with local regulations.
COMPRESSOR PREPARATION
- If your Compressor is an earlier generation with a factory-installed Hood, the use of this kit will necessitate permanent removal for clearance of the hoses and the additional height of the Automatic Moisture Drain.
- Operating the Compressor without a Hood installed is completely acceptable and expedites maintenance. The removal of the Hood will not increase specified noise levels.
MOISTURE DRAIN BOTTLE KIT INSTALLATION
- Use two M5x20 Phillips Head Screwswith Lock Washer, Washers, and Nut [J] to secure the Mounting Bracket [L] to the Lid.
- Install the Straight Brass Barbed Fittings [K] by threading them into the tapped holes on the Lid.
- Screw the Bottle onto the Lid.
- If your Compressor has a previous Moisture Drain Kit installed, you may reuse the existing holes to mount it. If not, you will need to mark and drill two holes near the Oil Drain Valve to mount the Bracket:
- Use the holes in the Mounting Bracket to mark the hole locations.
- Drill two 1/4” holes through the Compressor frame.
BURST HAZARD! DO NOT drill into the Compressor Air Tank. This will compromise the strength of the Tank and could result in it bursting, causing personal injury and property damage.
- Use the two M6x20 Socket Head Screw with Nut [M] to attach the Moisture Drain Kit assembly to the frame.
- Slip the existing oil drain hose over one fitting. The Automatic Moisture Drain Hose will go over the other fitting.
AUTOMATIC MOISTURE DRAIN BLOCK INSTALLATION
- Move the Power Switch to the “OFF” position.
- Release pressure from the Air Tank until the Tank Pressure Gauge indicates 0 PSI.
- Disconnect the Compressor from the power supply.
- Remove Moisture Separator (White Canister) (FIG 4) from the Filter Manifold.
- Remove the factory-installed standpipe (FIG. 5) from the Filter Manifold. Remove the old O-ring from the Filter Manifold beneath where the Standpipe threads into the Filter Manifold (FIG. 6). These parts will not be reused. Clean the area of water/oil before proceeding.
- Carefully install the new O-Ring [E] to the Filter Manifold (FIG. 6). Install the new, extended-length Standpipe with O-Ring Installed. Use of a blue thread locking compound is recommended. Thread in by hand, then carefully snug with a wrench or pair of pliers.
- Lubricate the Seal on the bottom surface of the Moisture Drain Block [A] with a thin layer of oil. With the Seal facing down, thread the Moisture Drain Block onto the Standpipe. Use of a blue thread locking compound is recommended. Tighten by hand until snug with the Drain Block port clocked for easy Check Valve and Hose installation (FIG 8).
- Install the Check Valve Assembly [B], 20” (500mm) Drain Hose [C], and Hose Clamp [D] (FIG 9). Tight-fitting securely to prevent air leaks. Ensure PTFE sealant is adequate. Route the hose to a barbed fitting on the Moisture Drain Bottle (FIG 11)
- Lubricate the Moisture Separator seal with a thin layer of oil, then install it on the Automatic Drain Block. Snug by hand.
- Start the unit and check for air leaks. Switch “OFF” immediately if any air leaks are found.
- The Automatic Moisture Drain Kit is now ready for operation (FIG. 11).
Maintainance
With these new systems installed, follow this maintenance schedule fothe r best Compressor life. For a more detailed overview of the latest maintenance practices and procedures, visit Eastwood.com to download a full product manual for #63600.
DAILY
- Turn the nit off at the Pressure Switch when not in use.
- Check the unit for air or oil leaks.
- Drain Air Tank
MONTHLY
- Check fluid level in Bottle: If at or over the bottom of the label, drain and replace the Moisture Separator only with Eastwood #31716.
- Check oil level: To ensure a correct reading, first verify that no condensation has collected in
Oil Tank
- Turn the Power Switch “OFF”. Allow the unloader valve to bleed pressure before service.
- Allow the unit to sit 8+ hours since the last operation.
- Verify the Drain Hose connection at the Drain Valve and the Moisture Drain Bottle.
- SLOWLY open Drain Valve. Drain until you see brown/yellow fluid – this is oil.
- Close the Drain Valve and check the oil level in the Oil Tank.
- Ensure oil level is between the upper and lower marks on the Dipstick.
ANNUALLY
- Change oil, Oil Filter, and Moisture Separator.
- See QST 30/60 Instruction Manual for oil/filter change procedure.
- Use only high-quality Eastwood QST 30/60 Synthetic Compressor Oil (#31718) or
equivalent ISO32 synthetic compressor oil, Oil Filter #31715, Moisture Separator #31716.

FAQs
What is the EASTWOOD QST 30 60 Automatic Moisture Drain Kit?
By automatically eliminating collected moisture from compressed air systems, this kit helps avoid water accumulation that could harm tools and equipment.
Why is an automatic moisture drain important?
Compressed air line moisture can lead to corrosion, rust, and subpar tool performance.
How is the drain kit installed?
Installing the drain valve entails attaching it to the drain port on your air tank and making sure the wiring is correct for automated operation.
How does the automatic moisture drain work?
The drain valve is opened to release water when the system detects moisture levels or time intervals, and it is subsequently closed to preserve system pressure.
Does the drain kit require power?
Indeed, as stated in the handbook, the drain valve needs to be connected to a power source in order to function electrically.
Is there a warranty for the EASTWOOD QST 30 60 kit?
