    2. For the selection and notes of grinding items, refer to “Element 1: Beans or Spices”, page 12
    3. Ensure the grinder is always clean, or use a second grinder if you grind both spices and coffee regularly.

    Overheat Protection

To protect its motor and increase its lifespan, the grinder will automatically shut off due to overheating after continuous operation for over 40 seconds each time. This cooling-off period protects your ground coffee from becoming overheated before it’s brewed. Wait 3 minutes until the grinder has cooled sufficiently before reuse.

    Cleaning & Maintenance

    Before Use

    1. This grinder can be used only for grinding dry, fragile foods. Items that are too hard, too long, moist, or sticky, such as ginger, chocolate, sesame, oily spices, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, are not suitable for this grinder. Trying to grind these items will possibly damage the grinder.
    2. Grinding peppercorns, herbs, or spices can produce strong aromas and flavors, which will affect the flavor of your subsequently ground coffee. If you plan to grind those items rich in flavor, you may need to purchase another grinder.
    3. Choose appropriate coffee beans to suit your brewing method. We recommend medium or dark roasted beans for making espresso, and medium roasted beans for making americano.
    4. Adjust grinding time according to your brewing method. We recommend grinding approximately x. 25 seconds for espresso, approx. 20 seconds for mocha coffee, approx. 15 seconds for drip/pourover coffee, and approx. 10 seconds for French press.
    5. The maximum capacity of coffee beans that can be loaded into the grinder shall not exceed 60 grams.
    6. A single time of continuous grinding shall not exceed 40 seconds, because the longer the grinder works, the easier it will heat up, which will indirectly cause the ground item to release aromas in advance due to the heat. Grinding coffee beans past the instructed time limit will not only affect the taste of the coffee but also possibly damage the grinding motor due to overheating.

    In Use

    • This grinder has only one ON/OFF button; keep pressing the button for grinding.
    • During grinding, you need to waggle the grinder to make the grinds more evenly spread.
    • During grinding, you can see through the transparent lid to monitor the grinding process.
    • A single time of continuous grinding shall not exceed 40 seconds, because the longer the grinder works, the easier it will heat up, which will indirectly cause the ground item to release aroma in advance due to the heat.
    • Grinding coffee beans past the instructed time limit will not only affect the taste of the coffee but also possibly damage the grinding motor due to overheating.
    • Please strictly follow the instructions and requirements below to clean the grinder; otherwise, the flavors of your coffee will be affected, or the lifespan of the grinder will be shortened.
    • To make sure your grinder operates efficiently, you must clean the grinder after each use. For a detailed cleaning guide, refer to page 15, steps 8-14 in section “6. Operation Guide”.

    FAQs

Q: What type of coffee beans can I use with the GECGI140-U grinder?

Ans: Any regular roasted coffee beans will work. Because they can clog the grinder or affect performance, stay away from using unroasted (green) beans, flavoured beans with added oils, and very oily dark roasts.

Q: Can I grind spices, seeds, or nuts in this grinder?

Ans: No, the sole purpose of the GEVI GECGI140-U is to grind coffee beans. You risk damaging the blades and losing your warranty if you use it to grind nuts, grains, or spices.

Q: How do I adjust the grind size?

Ans: Although this model has a one-touch operation, the grind settings are not customisable. A shorter press generates a coarser grind, while a longer press produces a finer grind. The grind time determines the coarseness of the grind.

Q: How much coffee can I grind at once?

Ans: Up to 60 grammes (about 8–9 tablespoons) of coffee beans can be ground with the GECGI140-U in a single batch. Depending on your preferred brewing method, this quantity is perfect for making about 8 cups of coffee.

Q: Can the grinding chamber be washed in the dishwasher?

Ans: No, only a moist cloth should be used to hand-wash and completely dry the grinding chamber and cover. The motor base should never be submerged in water.

Q: Is it normal for the grinder to get warm during use?

Ans: It is natural to feel a little heated after prolonged use. However, don’t run the grinder for longer than 30 seconds at a time to avoid overheating. Give yourself 60 seconds to cool down in between grinding cycles.
